Outreach Training Program

OSHA’s voluntary 10-hour and 30-hour worker training program.

What it is

The OSHA Outreach Training Program is a voluntary worker safety training program offering 10-hour and 30-hour classes in Construction, General Industry, and Maritime. Classes are delivered by OSHA-authorized trainers, who are themselves authorized via OTI Education Centers.

Plain-English explanation

Outreach Training is the most common form of OSHA-recognized safety training in the U.S. Workers complete a 10-hour or 30-hour class and receive an OSHA card recognized by employers, regulators, and many state agencies.

Trainers are individually authorized via the OTI Education Center network. Authorization lasts 4 years and requires a 5-day update course (#502, #503, or #5402) to renew.

Why it matters

Between FY 2021 and FY 2025, more than 6.5 million workers were trained through the program. Outreach training is the front line of regulatory awareness for the U.S. workforce.
